Kenny & Sammy's Cancer Blog

Last radiation tomorrow

Last radiation is tomorrow! Mouth sores, mucous and throat are bad. No nausea thankfully. Chemo round 3 cancelled because we got behind schedule with low blood counts (ANC / WBC / Platelets). Felt two was enough. Skin not too bad – use aloe vera gel straight from the plant and glaxol.

Great advice and info in this site!

Have a full blog under ‘home page’ with more details.

Will be nice not to have 3 hr tour every day for rad. (if on schedule and all machines working and no extra Dr / Dentist appointments -then add more time)!

Congratulations on your completion. Now it’s healing time.

Congrats I am glad it will be over for you! Now let the healing begin! Hugs Val

PS I wil be following your blog!

Congradulations! Aloe is awsome!

Glaxo is awesome I used it too. I was treated at PMH in Toronto – not HPV related though mine was spontaneous. Good luck today! I’m sure they told you rads is cumulative the next two weeks may be unpleasant then slowly after that you’ll begin to feel better. There’s another forum specifically for oral cancer… It’s a great place for info as well. It’s called OCF ,(oral cancer forum) have a good day!

 Awesome. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks everyone. So excited and so ‘tired’ and ready to be done. Time to heal and take a peak at a what a normal day could be like. But with all the future what ifs it will be a new-normal. Thanks for letting us peak into yours! Kenny and Sammy

Yes, A New Normal, but a better one! One filled with a new found respect for the preciousness and fragility of life! You’ll do great!

Another bit of advice…. When you are really – physio, mabe acupuncture… Rads does a number on your muscles! :)

Congrats on finishing Radiation! WOOT! It helps to read posts like this .. to know I WILL get there someday. Hope your healing goes well and you start feeling better quickly.

Kenny, you live closer to me than I thought, I’m in Ancaster (Hamilton). I wonder if many readers here know you are from Justin Bieber’s home town, lol.
Don’t worry about chemo 3, I almost missed it myself and my onc said they are reconsidering HPV OC to get less rad and only 2 Cisplatin anyway. By missing it, you might have saved yourself additional hearing loss and peripheral neuropathy (both I have a touch of).
Rads continue working for a few weeks, then you’re on your way to healing, eating and tasting normal food, energy coming back, etc. I thought the mucus and stuffy runny nose would never go away but it did.
One more and treatment done, congrats!
Cheers,
Roger

Yes Roger…busted! We are a Belieber town! Have a Dad & Brother in Burlington so even closer 2u. Glad we didn’t do chemo #3 for sure. Mouth sores are nasty bad. Fighting fever again. Got a prescription yesterday that we had after 1st chemo (in case of an infection) fever spike too that cleared up mouth sores then so hope it does so again. Mucus…well wow…what’s with that…be glad when that calms down :)

Kenny, I lived in Burlington for four years and spent a year in Toronto before moving back to the States. I love Canada! I have a question, on your worst day, were you able to get out of bed? My husband is getting ready for chemo and radiation and I am curious, will he be able to get outside and take a short walk? What is it going to be like for him physically other than the mucous, mouths sore…etc, you know the “typical” problems.

Yea! another rad survivor…good luck and hope for the quickest recovery of all.

Hi Kenny, Congratulations on making it to “Mt. Doom” and back.
Now your body gets to continue cooling off for a while; and then bring on the healing.
For your throat, a salt & baking soda warm water gargle might give some relief. Mucus will get better, though it may remain an issue for months, even years.
I kept taking Tylenol-3s for several week after Rads were done, until my throat really calmed down.
It’s been about 10 months out for me and I still use healing ointment on my neck, cause it feels great.
I imagine you’re really enjoying you new found leisure time.
Like Val says, be following your blog.
Hugs, Nicole

Congrats on getting through the radiation. Remember though that you have about a two week lag where you will continue to feel the effects. If your skin is peeling and blistered, ask your doc about ‘silvadene” It’s a great cream to treat skin burns.

Hang in there, it takes a while before you start to feel better. But you will! :)

All the best,

Jacques

Big step Kenny! I’m cheering for you as you cross the finish line! Praying for a quick healing process!

Scottie
